Should the United States dump one of the “minor” holidays and replace it with an Election Day holiday? Or maybe even replace a “major” holiday.
I vote to merge Veterans Day and Memorial into a single observance on May and use the gap in November left behind by Veterans Day and make election day holiday. As someone who has been involved in organizing Memorial Day Observances, these events are as much about living veterans as the dead ones. The point of Veterans Day is to remember those who are living. Memorial Day practically already is a merged holiday.
I know it’s not a popular idea to dump a “verterans” holiday, but you see my case presented above. I mean come on, why do we have Columbus day?? Seriously? It’s already been proven he never really “discovered” America anayways.
